In this exhibition, we show that images were part of a process. A process of observation, of experimentation, and/or of discovery, of which we exhibit here the printed version. Canaletto's capricci, the result of fragmenting and re-composing disparate elements, exist at the intersection of antiquarianism, architecture, and tourism. This research seminar asks how imaginary landscape paintings illustrate developing ideas of landscape heritage at a time of urban development. Through the lens of environmental and media studies, eighteenth-century Venice emerges here as a vivid case study in the development of a modern conception of the urban environment as a repository of traces of lost natural and cultural history. Während ihrer letzten Reise nach Europa war die Künstlerin, Kunsthistorikerin und Bibliothekskuratorin Kate Trauman Steinitz (1889–1975) im September 1974 für zwei Wochen zu Gast an der Bibliotheca Hertziana. Bekannt ist Steinitz zumal als Vertraute von Kurt Schwitters (1887–1948) und durch ihre Studien zu Leonardo da Vinci. [mehr]
