Curriculum Vitae

Sabine Sommerer is specialized in medieval art history. She studied at the Universities of Basel and Freiburg (D), held posts as pre-doctoral research and teaching assistant at the University of Fribourg (CH) and the Technical University of Dresden. After a research stay in Rome with a scholarship of the Swiss National Science Foundation and as scientific member of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma she completed her PhD about the Trecento murals in the Camera d'Amore in Avio, Trentino. After finishing her PhD she left Europe for a one-year research stay at Damascus and was for three years editor of the journal Kunst+Architektur in der Schweiz. Back in Switzerland she curated an exhibition project and co-authored a larger monograph in the series "Monuments of art and history of Switzerland". Since 2013 she is affiliated with the University of Zurich as Senior Researcher (Oberassistentin) and is currently working on her habilitation project about the materiality and agency of premodern ceremonial chairs.
