Curriculum Vitae

Susanne Watzenboeck studied Art History and English and American Culture and Literature at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz. In her bachelor thesis she analyzed the artistic significance of the cinematic medium in the work of Guy Debord and within the Situationist International. During her studies she completed numerous internships in the field of curation, amongst others at the Austrian National Gallery Belvedere, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and Beit Hatefutsot in Tel Aviv. In 2014 she worked as a curatorial assistant for the exhibition Towards Modernity? at the Neue Galerie am Universalmuseum Joanneum. In 2015 she finished her masters with a thesis that examined the interplay of phenomenology and the perception of images in the analysis of contemporary painting. Since 2017 she has pursued her dissertation project on the work of Nanni Moretti, supervised by Prof. Dr. Sabine Flach. The thesis will specifically study the cinematographic representation of identity and pictoriality as well as their constant oscillation between reality and fiction as shown in the movies of Moretti. In October 2018 she obtained a doctoral scholarship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome, in the department of Prof. Dr. Tanja Michalsky.
