The Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome (BHMPI) is one of several institutes of the Max Planck Society (MPG) e.V. and a leading international centre for art history research.
We are looking for a full-time employee to support our IT department as soon as possible.
The Bibliotheca Hertziana operates a complex IT infrastructure with its own data centre and a mixed system architecture for the administration of over 100 employees. You will support the head of the IT department in all areas of system administration and user support.
Knowledge in the following areas of responsibility is required:
Server and System Administration
- Administration and maintenance of Microsoft Windows Servers and Active Directory
 - Management and operation of Microsoft Exchange Server (version 2019)
 - Configuration and administration of Linux servers, preferably Ubuntu or Debian
 - Maintenance and administration of backup systems (e.g., Veeam, Tivoli, Synology Active Backup)
 - Administration of firewall systems (e.g., Watchguard, OPNsense)
 
Virtualization and Containerization
- Operation and administration of VMware environments
 - Deployment and management of Docker containers on Linux servers
 
Network Administration
- Strong knowledge of network technologies, preferably with a Cisco certification
 - Configuration and administration of Layer 3 networks
 
Client Management
- Installation, configuration, and support of Microsoft Windows clients and Apple macOS systems
 
Security and Architecture
- Management and development of secure system architectures and IT infrastructures
 
Desired Additional Skills
- Experience in migrating on-premise infrastructures (Active Directory, Exchange) to Microsoft 365 / Office 365
 - Programming skills in at least one high-level programming language
 - Good knowledge of PowerShell and Bash scripting
 
Requirements:
University degree in computer science or a related field, or completed vocational training as an electronics technician for information technology, IT assistant, IT specialist or similar.
Several years of professional experience
Very good written and spoken English and Italian, German skills desirable
Ability to work in a team and commitment, resilience, service orientation and a communicative and friendly manner.
 
If you meet the personal requirements, you will be offered a salary up to TVöD EG 12 with corresponding foreign allowances in accordance with the special provision § 45 BT-V to TVöD and social benefits as in the public sector (federal government) or a contract for local employees in accordance with the conditions of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rome. Your workplace is located in the centre of Rome and is easily accessible by public transport.
