Transformation of Urban Heritage in Post-war Rome, 1944–1953: Transnational Flows and National Identity

This research examines the transformation of Rome’s urban heritage between 1944 and 1953, a critical yet understudied period in which relief efforts, reconstruction policies, land reforms, and urban regeneration unfolded under competing political, ideological, and institutional influences. Focusing on the remarkable transnational flows of civilian and military actors through Rome, it explores the reciprocal exchanges between Italian, European, and American urban cultures and their impact on the city’s post-war transformation.
