Dr. Diogo Rodrigues de Barros is a scientific
assistant in the department of Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen. He completed his PhD
in Art History at the University of Montreal in 2023, having worked as a
lecturer at the same university before joining the Hertziana. His dissertation,
entitled La Sociabilité latino-américaniste : continentalisme, histoire et
critique d’art (1967-1995), is a study of collective projects –
publications, conferences, and exhibitions – developed by Latin American art
critics as a way of affirming the continent’s cultural unity. Dr. de Barros was
previously awarded an M.A. in Social Sciences from the École des hautes études
en sciences sociales and a B.A. in History from the University of São Paulo. His
current research is a comparative study of the uses of the concept of crisis in
art criticism in Italy and Brazil during the 1960s and 1970s, with a particular
interest in the intersections between discourses on the crisis of modern art
and references to crises of democratic culture in post-fascist Italy and Brazil
under dictatorship.
