The Creation of a Medium: Featherwork in the Early Modern Period

Vita

Rebecca Lowery is a 2026-2027 Predoctoral Fellow in the Department Weddigen and a PhD Candidate in the History of Art and Architecture at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation research focuses on featherwork in the early modern period, interogating the medium as an artistic mode as well as a historiographic construction. Rebecca received her MA in Art History from the University of Alabama, where she also received her BA, for which included study at the Lorenzo de Medici Institute in Florence. She has studied older and modern Nahuatl with the Instituto de Docencia e Investigaciones Etnológicas de Zacatecas (IDIEZ) for three years, one with the support of a FLAS summer fellowship, and one in El Tecomate, Veracruz. She is concerned more generally with questions of artistic geography and materiality.
