Visioning Palestine in Italy (1970-2009)
Vita
Yasmin Riyahi is a postdoctoral fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max
Planck Institute for Art History. Her research focuses on the reception of
Palestinian culture and the presence of Palestinian artists in Italy from the
1970s to the 2000s.
In 2024, she earned her Ph.D. from Sapienza University of Rome with a thesis
titled "Pietro Maria Bardi e la Galleria di Roma." She is a teaching
assistant there and collaborates with the activities of the MLAC – Museo
Laboratorio d’Arte Contemporanea.
Also in 2024, she was a research fellow at the University for Foreigners of
Siena for the PRIN PNRR 2022 project, STRANIERE: the reception of
non-European arts and cultures in Italy (1945-2000). Within this project,
she was able to delve deeper into contemporary Palestinian art in Italy,
continuing the studies she conducted for the Sapienza University project, From
Third-Worldism to Postcolonialism: Visual Imaginaries of Otherness in Italy
(1979-2009). Additionally, she was a curatorial assistant to Professor
Gerhard Wolf for the permanent exhibition of the collection at CAMeC – Center
for Modern and Contemporary Art in La Spezia.
She is currently an adjunct professor teaching the course Museums,
Colonialism, Restitutions (ARTE-01/C) at IULM University in Milan and is a
member of the editorial board for the journal Studi Culturali (Il Mulino).
