Geographies of Collapse. The Dystopian Landscape in Italian Cinema
Vita
Matteo Santandrea is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on the representation of urban space and sociocultural dynamics in Italian cinema. On these and related topics, he has taken part in national and international conferences and seminars. He is the author of the monographs È stata Roma. La criminalità capitolina dal “poliziottesco” a Suburra (Rubbettino, 2019) and Paesaggi del crimine. Milano, Roma, Napoli nel crime film italiano: 1966—1980 (Marsilio, 2024), as well as essays and contributions published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. He is a member of the editorial boards of «Cinema e Storia. Rivista di studi interdisciplinari» and «Imago. Studi di cinema e media», and serves as co-organizing director of the Palladium Film Festival - CineMaOltre.
Previously, he taught as an adjunct lecturer at eCampus University and the University of Teramo. At Roma Tre University, where he obtained his PhD in Visual Studies, he worked as a research fellow on the PRIN projects The “Golden Age” of Italian Animation. From the Economic Boom to the Years of Lead (1957—1977) and Transatlantic Transfers: The Italian Presence in Post-War America, 1949—1972.
