Digital models and their visualization have, however, been criticized from the start for their lack of transparency as well as for the interoperability and sustainability of the research data.
The lecture intends to present the challenges and potentials of the digital 3D-reconstruction in the light of the Semantic Web-technologies and FAIR-principles. The aim is to showcase the digital models and the numerous visualization possibilities as a promising research methodology. Which requirements should be met in order to be able to answer scientific questions using the models and to meet the proven practice rules of a good scientific work?
Piotr Kuroczyński is an architect specializing in the field of digital 3D reconstruction, documentation and visualization of cultural heritage. He is co-founder and convenor of the Digital 3D-Reconstruction Working Group in the Digital Humanities in German-speaking Region Association. Since 2017 he has been Professor for Computer Science and Visualization in Architecture at the Hochschule Mainz – University of Applied Sciences Mainz. Since 2018 he is the head of the Institute of Architecture and the chief-in-editor of the book series Computing in Art and Architecture at the Heidelberg University Library.
