Amicizia – Histories of the Palazzo Zuccari and Trinità dei Monti in Dialogue

This event is inspired by the connections between two buildings in close proximity: Trinità dei Monti and Palazzo Zuccari, the latter of which occupies the former home of the painter Federico Zuccari. The connection of the two buildings dates back to the sixteenth century, when Trinità dei Monti was occupied by members of the Order of Minims. In his history of the convent at Trinità dei Monti, Fourier Bonnard wrote that the Zuccari brothers “almost always maintained friendly relations with their neighbors, the Minims of Trinità.”

Building on this friendship and the opening of the exhibition HYPOTHÈSE

DE LECTURE, in the Antica Biblioteca of Trinità dei Monti, this event explores the shared history of the two buildings, with a particular focus on their roles as a convent filled with scientifically curious brothers and an artist’s home in early modern Rome. The event will include presentations on seventeenth-century links between the buildings, as well as a presentation about the photographic presence of the two buildings in the photographic collections of the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
