The Khanenkos in Rome: art collecting strategies (1874-1914)

Curriculum vitae

Kateryna Hotsalo serves as the head of the educational department at the Khanenko Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine. She is interested in adapting academic knowledge to educational museum programs and offers. Kateryna develops museum activities for children and adolescents, as well as for visually impaired people. She also researches the museum's collection of European textiles. In 2019-2022, Kateryna improved her skills in attribution of historical fabrics at Fondazione arte della seta Lizio, Florence. In 2023, Kateryna earned her PhD with a dissertation titled "Textiles in Florence and Venice Through the Eyes of Citizens During the 15th–16th Centuries. Using Fabrics from the Khanenko Museum Collection". Kateryna defended her thesis at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where she had previously worked as a visiting lecturer (2019-2022). Her doctoral research was supported by several grants of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. In 2022, Kateryna was also a fellow at the Kunsthistorisches Institut (KHI) in Florence. Сurrently, she focuses on the historical and cultural contexts that influenced the formation of the European textile collection of the Khanenko Museum during the late 19th to mid-20th centuries.
