The Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History invites applications for a one-year doctoral position (starting in September 2021) for PhD students in art history, whose dissertation topic can be integrated into the research program "Conques in the Global World. Transferring Knowledge: From Material to Immaterial Heritage".
The Bibliotheca Hertziana is involved in an MSCA-RISE agreement (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Research and Innovation Staff Exchange) with partners in Czech Republic, France, Italy and the USA, which promotes networking and collaborative research on Conques. The research project located at the Bibliotheca Hertziana investigates the construction and interpretation of sacred space and landscape in and around Conques from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern period. Field trips and on-site research, as well as collaboration with the other partners of the CONQUES consortium, are planned.
The position is within the Department Michalsky. An integral part is a research stay at one of the American partner universities (City University of New York; Rutgers University, New Jersey), which is additionally subsidized by the MSCA-RISE program. Applicants must be enrolled at a European university.
The application including a curriculum vitae in tabular form (with the indication of two references) and a short project description (max. 3 pages) with essential bibliography (everything collected in a single PDF) can be written in German, Italian or English. Very good English and French language skills are required, Italian or German language skills are desirable.
